The Truth About Violence in America: Stop the Blame, Start the Solutions

In a recent Letter to the Editor in response to the shooting of a conservative activist, Elizabeth Beth wrote “Liberalism and the Democrat Party are a sick movement.” Apparently blaming the shooting on Democrats.
The current occupant of the White House has turned his attention toward vilifying left-wing organizations, when in fact those organizations tend to promote peace, not violence. Remember: January 6 was not a left-wing attack on the Capitol that killed police officers – they were right-wing MAGA extremists.
What the Data Really Says
A study that documented the frequency of far-right violence was conducted by The Justice Department.
Oddly, the study was recently removed (as reported by 404media.com). It seems the DOJ, like other agencies, is removing anything that doesn’t fit their current agenda and doesn’t appear to believe in transparency or facts.
The opening paragraph read in part:
“Since 1990, far-right extremists have committed far more ideologically motivated homicides than far-left or radical Islamist extremists, including 227 events that took more than 520 lives. In this same period, far-left extremists committed 42 ideologically motivated attacks that took 78 lives.”
Violence Is Never the Answer
Don’t get me wrong. Violence in any form should not be condoned or tolerated. It doesn’t matter which race, religion, sex or political party a person belongs to, it is unacceptable.
We need to come together to stop these horrible, irrational acts and support policies and programs to reduce them, such as common-sense gun reform and increasing mental health resources.
We need to stop blaming and start searching for solutions. And we need to remember that we’re supposed to be the UNITED States of America and act accordingly.
