Why vote?
Voting is your voice and it empowers you to create positive change for yourself, your loved ones, and your community.
Why vote early?
Because it is an effective way to secure your ballot, reduce stress on the election processing system, and maximize the impact of campaigns.
Three of the main reasons to vote early:
Convenient and avoids potential delays
Voting early provides immense flexibility for people balancing work, school, caretaking responsibilities, etc. More importantly, it ensures being ahead of any "Election Day disruptions," such as an unanticipated, last-minute emergency or mishap.Safeguards Against Administrative Glitches
Casting your ballot ahead of time provides a cushion for administrative errors. If there is a problem with your voter registration status, an error in the spelling of your name, or a malfunction with a local voting system, early voting gives you, poll workers, and election officials a window of time to resolve the issue before the deadline.Reduces Strain on Polling Places
When a large portion of votes are cast early, it significantly thins out the Election Day crowds. This reduces long lines and wait times at the polling sites, making the voting experience much more accessible for individuals with limited mobility, health challenges, or tight schedules. It also decreases pressure on poll workers, leading to improved processing and smoother overall at the ballot box.
Today - as I write this - is Sunday, October 18th. It’s now 16 days to Election Day. According to NBC, 9,084,588 mail-in and early in-person votes have been cast nationally. In several states with key Senate or governor races this fall, Democrats make up a larger share of voters requesting ballots so far than they did at this point in 2024.
Some stats indicate:
In Iowa, Democrats have made 67% of ballot requests, up from 54% at this point in 2024.
In Pennsylvania, it’s 66%, up from 62%, and in Maine it’s 57%, up from 53%.
According to data from the North Carolina State Board of Elections, 42% of ballot requests are from Democrats, up from 36% at this point two years ago.
Signs also indicate that Democrats are at an advantage, which is both encouraging and motivating. Harvard University forecast says there’s a 51% chance the Democrats take the House. Other political observers and polls are strongly predicting that Democrats will gain control of the House of Representatives and possibly the Senate.
What are next steps if Democrats win the House, Senate, or Both? A few possibilities being explored by House Democrats include:
An aggressive agenda becomes reality.
A possible third impeachment of President Donald Trump.
Leading the House Democrats, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries aims to start with immediate efforts to make life more affordable for Americans.
Legislation to reinstate tax breaks for health insurance purchased through the Affordable Care Act marketplace.
Reverse Republican cuts to Medicaid.
Oppose Trump’s tariffs.
The top Democrat on the oversight committee, Rep. Robert Garcia of California, has said he will examine Trump’s family businesses, the Epstein files, immigration enforcement, corporate profiteering and how Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has handled vaccines.
Although races are tight, what happens if Democrats Retake Control of the Senate? A few things come immediately to mind:
A Democratic majority would be able to gain leverage and block Trump’s nominees for Cabinet positions.
Freeze the appointment of federal judges, including nominees to the Supreme Court, should there be an opening.
Democrats could subpoena to investigate the administration
Aside from a national perspective and on a level local to the City of Tracy, I recommend voting early and voting for our club members, where applicable:
