The U.S. Interaction with Iran
The U.S. interaction with Iran began in 1957 with President Eisenhower’s “Atoms for Peace” program ensuring the promotion of peaceful use of nuclear energy worldwide.
Moving forward to 1970 Iran began its nuclear program. Iran complies with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty not to develop a nuclear bomb. UN visits verify Iran’s commitment for energy use.
This changed with the discovery of two unreported nuclear sites resulting in 2005 the UN imposing sanctions.
In 2015 the “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action” Agreement sets strict limitations on Iran’s nuclear program limiting the amount of enrichment uranium levels Iran can possess.
Iran’s enrichment stock piles decrease and the UN removes imposed sanctions.
Withdrawal From the Agreement
In 2018 Trump withdraws from the Agreement and imposes sanctions on Iran.
February 2019 the International Atomic Energy Agency certifies Iran abides by the JCPA Agreement.
Iran requests protection from Trump’s sanctions. Sanctions remain.
Iran increases imposed JCPA limitations causing concern within the international community.
Escalation and Military Conflict
A joint U.S.-Israeli mission begins bombing Iran.
Causalities of Trump’s war are 6 U.S. military servicemen killed, U.S. bases targeted, U.S. embassy’s bombed, Americans stranded seeking to leave the Middle East and the most horrific casualties of war is the bombing and obliteration of an elementary school killing an estimated 108 innocent children.
Political Accountability
I find it ironic that Trump has consistently blamed President Biden for military actions he says he had to deal with, yet he (Trump) has gone to war on his own merits without hesitation that has killed innocent children.
Trump stated June 24, “It was my great honor to destroy all nuclear facilities and capability”.
Global Fallout
The results of Trump’s war, Iran’s allies, China and Russia condemn the U.S. attacks on Iran.
The Middle East is in turmoil thanks to Trump with no foreseeable peace.
